On the 24 days of tracking carried out in last December at the National Hunting Reserve of Boumort, 20 different Black Vulture specimens were monitored, both perching or feeding, by means of direct observation.

From those 20 black vultures, 17 were released or born in the wild within the programme for the reintroduction of the Black Vulture in the Pyrenees. The other 3 were of exogenous origin: 1 juvenile Black Vulture with neither rings nor marks, probably Iberian, and 2 specimens –Nouanda and Prose– from Cévennes (France), where a reintroduction programme was also carried out in the nineties and where there is already a viable population of the species. Currently, there are two more ongoing reintroduction projects of the Black Vulture, specifically in Baronnies and Verdon (French Pre-Alps).

From the 20 black vultures monitored in Boumort in December, Oriol was the most observed (8 records) and the less observed vulture was Neus (3 records), who is settled in the Alinyà Natural Site. Also in the month of December, the pairs formed by Perla and Portell and by Menta and Mario started to bring materials to trees that are relatively close to those that were active in 2012. The pairs have been keeping those structures regularly and this makes one think that maybe the structures will be occupied in 2013 during the reproductive cycle.

The reintroduction project of the Black Vulture in the Pyrenees is promoted by the Departament d’Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentació i Medi Natural de la Generalitat de Catalunya and by the Fundació Catalunya – La Pedrera. GREFA and Trenca are involved in the assisment and implementation of the Project, toghether with the Alinyà Natural Site staff and the rangers of the NHR of Boumort.
