37 different black vultures were identified in Boumort-Alinyà throughout the month of October, of which 33 are settled and make up the colony.

The Black Vulture colony (Aegypius monachus) in the Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida has got already 33 black vultures: 28 endogenous individuals, that is, released or born within the framework of the Boumort-Alinyà reintroduction programme, 2 exogenous individuals of French origin and 3 exogenous ones presumably of Iberian origin. Besides, during the month of October at least 2 more black vultures of French origin and other 2 of Iberian origin were observed, that is, a minimum of 37 individuals.

The three chicks born in 2013 continue  carrying out their main activity around the central focus of the colony, often visiting the SFP of Boumort in search of food. Two of them are still using their nests as their usual roost. Their food requests are being accomodated partly by their parents, although a progressive disengagement between adults and chicks is observed.

On the other hand, 8 new nesting artificial platforms (6 in Alinyà and 2 in Boumort) were built this Autumn in order to facilitate the future growth of the colony and the settling of new breeding pairs.

The reintroduction project of the Black Vulture in the Pyrenees is promoted by the Departament d’Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentació i Medi Natural de la Generalitat de Catalunya and by the Fundació Catalunya – La Pedrera. GREFA and Trenca are involved in the assisment and implementation of the Project, toghether with the staff of the Espai Natura Muntaya d’Alinyà and the rangers of the NHR of Boumort. The Estació Biològica del Pallars Jussà carries out several educational actions related to the project. REE is markedly engaged in financing the transmitters that allow us to radio track the black vultures from the project.
